A great place to camp and swim in the Rock pools. Watch out for baboons!
Drive North from Cape Town along the N7, past Malmesbury and Moreesburg, then turn Right at Piketburg to cross the valley to Porterville. (approx 1 hour 30 minutes total). From Porterville, head out North through the main road and beyond. A few km from the town, turn right onto the Cardouw /Dasklip Pass gravel road. The road follows the base of the mountain - you should soon see the pass snaking up the mountain. About 10km from the turnoff, turn right onto the pass, go over the top and turn left at the Beaverlac camping site sign. (I recomend an overnight stay - dogs welcome at R30 a night.)

Ask at office (ph 022 931 2945) for directions to Totem Pool, or head towards main pool from far gate, and generally keep heading right, following the stones. Shortly after the path/river veers to the left, you must go over the small koppie, and soon you will hear the sound of the waterfall at Totem Pool.
About now you should see a large rock on the left of path, with a triangular hole near top. Cache is in this rock, near base on the right hand side, behind a larger rock.
Once you have the cache, head on to 32 55.29S, 019 04.180E, and head down to the pool for a rewarding dip.
Alternative route: My second trip to Beaverlac has shown me an alternative route to pool - When to get to "Bumslide" just before river bends to the left), you can enter the river, and follow it on its course, hopping from rock to rock. This is the more fun and cool route, and you will have to climb up one or 2 easy ropes in places. You will then get to totem pool first, and have to head up to the right to find cache.
You can also walk along the pipe from the main pool on the other side of the river if you wish.
Once you have the cache, head on to 32 55.29S, 019 04.180E, and head down to the pool for a rewarding dip.
