This cache,
located in the cliffs of Huntingdon, is nearby our alma mater,
Juniata
College. We used to come to these cliffs as a diversion
during our college days. We placed this cache with our friend
Simon, and he has agreed to be the maintainer since we only
get back to the area about once every 4 months. Be sure to
check out the view of the Juniata River and the rail lines
that run along the river. This view is beautiful in the fall
and winter. I encourage everyone to take pictures and post
them.
The cache was marked using an accuracy of 16 feet on a Garmin
eTrex Summit. The cache is located on state game lands so you
should be sure to wear blaze orange during hunting seasons. The
cache can be reached several ways, but the best way is to take the
Petersburg Pike to these coordinates:
N 40 31.347
W 078 01.000
Map to this location
There is a trail on the left side of the parking area. Follow this
trail to the power lines and cross over toward the cliffs. The
total distance (as the crow flies) from the parking coordinates to
the cache is 0.42 miles.
When searching for the cache, there is no
need to go to the very edge of the cliffs. This can be a dangerous
area, so be VERY careful. Little children should not be allowed to
wander alone near the cache location.
The container is a regular green ammo
can.
As a side note, only 2 of our 3 person
team graduated from Juniata. To be fair, one of us graduated from
the University of Pittsburgh.
