Stand By Me Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

beatnik: Time for this little cache to go. I take quite a bit of pride after reading the logs from the past six years in the log book. Some great comments. It feels good to hear multiple people say that this is one of the best cache locations in all of Oklahoma. For the few of you that have taken the time to find it, thank you. For those that missed the chance, I'm sorry you didn't get out here sooner.

Geocache Description:

There comes a time in your life, usually when you are young, that something you read or see changes your perspective on life for all time. A fall from innocence...

The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them – words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size then they’re brought out. But it’s more than that, isn’t it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you’ve said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while your were saying it. That’s the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.

Stephen King - The Body, 1982

Of all the caches I have placed so far this is one of my favorites. It reminded me of a story that forever changed the ways I look at life. Like most of my caches this cache hunt is in the journey. When I arrived at this location and stepped out into the unknown I felt, if only for a moment, completely free. Perplexed with a feeling of sheer fear and complete relaxation at the same time. Take a moment to push your limits onto the edge. Just be careful this is a dangerous place. If you were to take yourself back in time the fear would be almost too much to bear for an adult let alone a small child.

At the end of this journey you will find a pen exchange cache. Don't worry you won't have to step out there to find the cache. It is in a safer although a little rocky location. For those that groan at the thought of rock caches, don't worry there is a good clue. Please take a pen a leave one of your own. Perhaps you will use the pen to start writing a great novel of your own some day.

Novelty pens are best but be warned that very long pens or pens with toppers on them may not fit. The container is a genuine Darkmoon pod that I won at the 2003 Spring Fling. Please hide it back well covered.
