Geocache Description:

A short 10 minute hike up a dirt road yields an incredible 160 degree ocean view.

PARK HERE (430 feet ASL):
N34, 17.255'
W119, 17.423'

NOTE: They lock the gate to the Ventura Shooting Range parking area at 4:30 PM sharp!

DANGER...IMPORTANT MUST READ NOTE:
In order to get to this Geo-Cache you must pass the "Ventura Shooting Range", and to do so, you can hike up the WEST or left side of the "Ventura Shooting Range" which is by far the SAFEST route if the gun range is open, or you can hike up the EAST ridge or the right side of the "Ventura Shooting Range" which could be VERY DANGEROUS if the gun range is open. If you hear gun fire (typically only on weekends) PLEASE EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION! I assume NO responsibility if you get hurt because you did something stupid. Please be careful, and choose the safest route up the hill to the Cache site.

From the parking spot you can hike up a dirt road (East ridge) gaining about 335 feet in elevation in 4/10 of a mile to the Cache Site. This will take you about 8-15 minutes depending on how fast you can walk.

About 1000 feet up the hill from the parking spot (on the left) is the "Ventura Shooting Range", PLEASE EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION and choose the safest route to the Cache site. If you hear gun fire and this is a safety concern, you can park near the Ventura Shooting Range (coordinates found below) and you might be able to hike around the West side of the Shooting Range (the safer side) up the hill to the Cache.

The Cache site offers an incredible 160 degree ocean view from Point Mago towards Santa Barbara, and on a clear day, you can see several of the Channel Islands some 20-50 miles away. It's a Great place for a picnic.

On a windy day, this cache site is a favorite take-off spot for local parasail hang gliders. Shortly after we arrived, a guy mysteriously showed up with his parasail and took off into the wild blue yonder. It was fun to watch him fly away. I probably don't need to say this BUT, if there are people present, PLEASE exercise caution when removing & replacing the Cache.
