Geocache Description:

Altitude above 8000' and hilly terrain.
Great for snowshoeing in winter!

The site location of Fremont's camp used for 10 days during his 1844 winter crossing of the Sierra Nevada. With him were Kit Carson, Tom "Broken Hand" Fitzpatrick, Alex Godey; in all, 30 men and 56 horses and mules.
Site discovered by this cacher using GPS in 1996.
Cache also contains a period drawing on the campsite.
The drawing, made by the 1844 expedition cartographer Charles Preuss, can also be found on the above website.
I had a metal tag on a nearby tree to mark the site, but it keeps being taken.
