Cache is located near the boundary of the Waimate and Mackenzie Districts on the Hakataramea Pass.This is the only public road within the Waimate District from which Mount Cook (Aoraki) can be veiwed. The road is regularly maintained but is not ideal for light cars. The Pass is at an altitude of 955 metres and can be closed withsnow or wash-outs at fords (there are several)
