Not a lot of walking, but you have to go through some high grass. At the cache location, watch out for the agony of de thorns.
GOOOAAALLL!! If you ever spent much time watching soccer matches on Hispanic television channels, then you probably recognize the trademark cry of announcer Andres Cantor, who celebrates each goal with this yell. I watch those games. I have no idea what is being said, but I enjoy the games. Weird, huh? Most of the world calls it football, or futbol. We call it soccer.
We love soccer. My sons have played the game, and I have coached, every spring and fall of every year for over ten years, since 1993. We own more than sixty soccer balls. We’re out there rain or shine, or in the mud. We love the sport.
This cache follows a soccer theme. The container contains a bunch of soccer-related stuff. When you find the cache, please try to stay with the theme and leave an item that has a connection to the sport. If you don’t have such an item, that’s okay, you can leave something else.
Here’s what you do.
Step 1 - Go to N32 39.649, W097 28.616. That is the first Initial Point (IP#1). Not much there, just a small creek.
Step 2 - Face the WSW direction. You see that yellow pole straight ahead, not very far, about 8 or 9 feet tall? The pole is the left field foul pole for that baseball field over yonder. That pole location is the first Offset Point (OP#1). Walk to the yellow pole (OP#1). When you reach the yellow pole, perform a “mark” with your GPSr, and record those coordinates.
Step 3 - Determine the difference between the IP#1 coordinates and the OP#1 coordinates in latitude and longitude. That difference is your Offset. For these calculations, the Offset is the change FROM IP#1 TO OP#1.
Step 4 - Now, go to N32 39.729, W097 28.083. That is your second IP (IP#2).
Step 5 - Apply the same Offset calculation that you determined above to IP#2 to obtain a new set of coordinates. Those coordinates are OP#2. Remember the Offset is FROM IP#2 TO OP#2.
Step 6 - Then, walk to OP#2. There you will find the cache.
(NOTE: Clever cachers out there may think of one of the couple of ways to shortcut the steps above.)
Original items in the cache include:
1) FTF Award – a soccer trophy with genuine, authentic, bona fide FTF engraving
2) Small toy soccer ball (soft enough that junior won’t cry when you throw it at his head)
3) Soccer ball key chain (if you’re like me, you really “need” to add something else to your jumble of keys)
4) Box of adhesive bandages (put junior out there at goalkeeper, and see how long those last… oh yeah, you do have a dental plan, right?)
5) Soccer ball stickers (stick one on your forehead, and one on your dog’s nose)
6) Drinking cup with a soccer ball emblazoned on it (Dad needs something to disguise the occasional beer)
7) Another drinking cup (hey, the price was right) (also, if you take one cup, just take one... leave the other)
8) Pair of soccer socks (like new… no really, they haven’t been used… trust me)
