Geocache Description:

Padre Crowley Point, and this cache, offers a spectacular view of the Panamint Valley.

The Point is named after Father John J. Crowley, who's ministry spread across the Northern Mojave to Bishop. Every Sunday he would drive by this way, saying Mass first in Death Valley, next in Lone Pine, and then on to Bishop. Sadly all this traveling led to his untimely death in 1940, in an automobile accident near the intersection of Highways 178 and 14. Another memorial to the "Desert Padre" is placed near that intersection, and may be the site of a future cache.

Directions: Turn into the Crowley Point rest parking lot off of Highway 190. Although most people admire the view from here, this is not the true vista point. Follow the dirt road next to the Padre's memorial plaque to the true vista point. It's about 1/4 mile, and is passable for all vehicles. It's a little bumpy in spots so take your time. Park your car at the vista point turn-around, get out of the car, admire the view, and then go find the cache! This place can be busy on weekends, so try to be a little secretive.

Original contents of the cache were: Magnifying Glass, Watch (needs battery), FM auto-scan radio (new), squirt flower wristband, Motorola pager (remember those before cell phones?), hanging monkey, broach, and two clown dolls.
