Hyvinkää has never been able to be proud of its history. The most
common comment on Hyvinkää is ”Yes, I’ve passed it by train!”
Hyvinkää was, however, a well known sanatorium town in the
beginning of the 20th century. The sanatorium had to be closed down
because the buildings were destroyed because of bombing during the
Winter War. Hyvinkää has also been well-known because of its wool
industry. Wool has been spun and woven there for about 90 years.
Sveitsi is quite a mountainous district compared to other areas in
Finland. That’s why the district has been named as Sveitsi
(Switzerland in Finnish).

Eteläsuomalaisittain ”alppimaisemansa” vuoksi yksi kaupunginosa on
nimetty Sveitsiksi.
