ClayJar: Well, as much as I loved AlaskaQuest 2004, it seems the time has come to archive. "...miles to go before I sleep."

Geocache Description:

It's the world's first and only 10,000-mile event cache! Sign up today! (Registration instructions below.)

The world's first 10,000-mile event cache, ClayJar's AlaskaQuest 2004, departs from Baton Rouge, LA, on June 17, 2004. If you are (or can be) along the route outlined below, you are welcome to join in for this exciting event. Register a stop, chase the event down (within the speed limit and all applicable laws), or even sneak a log in during the night. Any way you log it, ClayJar's AlaskaQuest 2004 is bound to add a little variety to your caching experience.

Tracking:

Online tracking is available on ClayJar's AlaskaQuest 2004 Tracking Page. If you need to get a message to the event once it's underway, go to the geocaching chat and find one of the AlaskaQuest support cachers. If you're meeting at a waypoint (or catching the event on the road), use FRS/GMRS channel 2 and you should hear the event on final approach. Alternately, if you are trying to catch the event on the road, there will be GMRS radios riding along to give you as much of a detection radius as possible.

Late Registration:

Registration is not required, but it will make logging this one-of-a-kind event cache much easier. To register for this event cache...

  1. Choose a rest stop along the itinerary listed below (obviously, it should be accessible from the direction of travel).
  2. Get the coordinates to the rest stop (they don't need to be exact; within 1/4 mile of the rest stop would likely be adequate).
  3. Go to the geocaching chat and find one of the cachers who will be updating the AlaskaQuest 2004 tracking page. They will send it along to the event in progress and also add the waypoint information to the tracking page. Give them the following information:
    • Phone number.
This will be used to call you when the event nears your waypoint
    • Your name.
If we're going to call you, we need to know who we're calling (caching names are fine if the person on the phone is aware, obviously).
    • Times it's okay to call.
We could be driving by your waypoint in the middle of the night, so tell us what times/days are reasonable for you being called.
    • Coordinates of the stop.
Obviously, you have to tell us where the stop is.
    • Description of the stop.
If it's the rest stop at mile 457 of I-10 in Texas, say that so we can put it in the list.
Late registrations through the AlaskaQuest 2004 tracking support cachers will not be posted on the cache page (it's not under their accounts), but they will be listed on the tracking page.
