Simply Paul: Three words: Just Too Wet!
Many thanks to the JGGs for grabbing the cache Messe left here only the other month. Definitely time to put this one to bed, and pass the box back to Roy when I've cleaned it up a bit.

Thanks to everyone who paid this cache and historic location a visit.

Geocache Description:

My first ever cache-n-dash is at Hampden's Monument, just outside of Chalgrove in Oxfordshire. Is this the easiest-to-do traditional cache in the country?

HAMPDEN'S MONUMENT (Oxon)

Simply Paul with cache, squinting into the sun, not far from where I hid the cache.

The Cache is located at:
N51° 40.185 / W001° 04.049

You can't miss this cache, it's up the eponymously named Monument Road, off the B480, between Stadhampton and Watlington. There's road-side parking right by the monument, and this one can be done inside a minute! In fact, please use your watch or stopwatch to time how long it takes you to find this cache, from the moment you get out of your car (or arrive at the monument, if you walked to the location) until the moment you put pen to logbook. I'd love to read how long it takes you in your logs. You've heard of NightCaching, this is SpeedCaching! Race!

To learn more about the life (I've just discovered I went to the same school as him; Lord Williams' in Thame) and death of John Hampden, a key figure in the English Civil War, visit his page at British-Civil-Wars.co.uk or read an interesting history at BucksFreePress.co.uk

Happy (and rapid) hunting!

The cache originally contained:
1x Candle
1x Thing for cleaning gunk out of your keyboard
1x 'I'm Experienced' badge
1x Party popper
1x 'The Phoenix Trail' leaflet
1x 1 Krone coin, from Norway. 'It's the coin with the hole'
Plus the usual: Cache notice, log book, pen, pencil.

While you're in the area, I suggest you try Bod and St's Chalkie White (revisited) cache, or Dan, Pid & Anna's The Christmas Countdown (Bucks/Oxon). They're both within short driving distance.

A small experiment - Please feel free to rate your visit to this cache out of ten in your log.
