The forest is home to the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker, but we were careful not to put any caches anywhere near their colony--which look like candles because of the pine sap oozing. This is an area of the Talladega Forest where longleaf pines can be seen growing in some clearings. The hike is down an old forest service road, which leads to a little spring-fed pond that's full of lilly pads. The cache is in a rubbermaid container that has been painted somewhat. It's only medium sized so keep that in mind if trading. Please be alert during hunting season as the almost whole forest will have hunters.
