Geocache Description:

The Koocanusa Bridge is 13 miles south of Eureka Montana on highway 37. The cache is on the west side of the lake and up a small hill from where you will park.

The Koocanusa Bridge was built in 1970 and is 2,437 feet long. It is the tallest and longest bridge in Montana and provides the only crossing of the lake in the United States. The bridge crosses Lake Koocanusa which was created in 1972 when the Libby Dam was built on the Kootenai River. When the lake was created it flooded the entire Kootenai River Valley including the towns that were in the valley. The lake extends 90 miles upstream, with 48 miles in the U.S. and 42 in Canada. The name “Koocanusa” was suggested by a Libby resident who took the KOO from Kootenai River, CAN from Canada, and USA from the United States of America. The cache is in a large clear plastic container and includes:

-Lizard Lite
-A bag of petrified wood/rocks
-Measuring tape
-Bike penHex key set
-Pool ball key chain
-Montana key ring
-“C” clamp
-Carabiner
-Big Sky Cachers cards
-Log book/pencils/sharpeners
