Geocache Description:

It's hard to imagine now but there was a time in the history of Virginia when the hills of Franklin were considered to be the frontier and those brave souls who dared to live in this area were risking everything for the freedom to settle new lands. Two of the people who came and are now commemorated here were Robert and Violet Hill who are praised with bronze plaques placed by the Maryland DAR. According to the inscription, Robert Hill fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant, 1774.

Other notable citizens of Franklin County's past are mentioned here as well. William Bernard from the Revolutionary War era is cited with a bronze plaque and you will find mention of Thomas H. Bernard, a member of the Henry and Pittsylvania Rifles, Co F, 57th VA Vols, CSA.

Walk among the Hills of Franklin County with respect. You will be quite out in the open at all times, so I suggest taking some pictures, making notes in a notebook, casually strolling around, before bending down to retrieve the cache from its hiding place. The cache is a small container about the size of a deck of cards.
