Note: If your GPSr does not have a magnetic compass, you will need
to use a separate compass or make an adjustment to the True North
heading provided by the GPSr.
The first coordinates place you at a popular location in
downtown Petaluma. While this is a nice area, it is not a good
location for placing a physical cache.
From this starting location, you will need to proceed at a
heading of 104 degrees (Magnetic) for approximately 105 feet. At
these coordinates you should see something that I am very fond
of.
Take the name of this item and spell it out in the way you would
expect me to spell it (use the hint if this doesn’t make any sense
to you). Take the following code to translate each of these letters
to a digit.
AB CD EF GH IJ KL MN OP QR ST UV WZ YZ
71 10 36 59 26 24 03 38 96 74 42 85 81
These digits will be used to complete the coordinates. The
letters “a” through “f” in the coordinates below correspond to the
first through sixth letters in the ‘word’ you spelled out in the
beginning. (So, if the word started with the letter “W”, you would
replace all the “a” spots in the coordinates with the number for
“W”—which is 8, and so on with the rest of the letters).
You will need to park at:
N 38 13.2ac’
W 122 37.3fd’
The second stage is at:
N 38 13.1eb’
W 122 37.1fb’
The hike is relatively short, less than ½ mile, but has one
fairly steep (but short) section.
Note: The second stage has been placed in a new location
approximately 300' from its original placement. While I thought the
original spot was on public property, the new fence noted by
MartianRabbit in his log showed that I was wrong. The new location
should be fine....
