A little bird told me.... Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Loggers Journey: Well due to the lack of availability of birds, I am going to archive this cache. Hopefully if I find more birds I will set up another cache in the future. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it looks like plastic birds are not in season.

A Little Bird Told Me….

I gotta tell you about this really weird dream I had the other night. So here I am standing in the back corner of the parking lot at Rockway Conservation area. Why Rockway? I dunno, like I said it was all just a weird dream. Maybe it was the extra spicy burritos I had before bed. So anyways, I start walking, I get about 100 metres along the trail heading east when I start to hear a bird singing. The song begins to sound more and more like a voice. I look to the right, it sounds like it’s coming from a stump set back from the trail maybe 20 metres or so. I head over to the stump nearly tripping over a big fallen tree and find this little brown bird, and the bird starts talking to me.

He starts telling me about how he and two of his feathered friends watched a couple of weird geeky looking guys came walking through the park carrying a locked treasure chest, muttering to themselves about how this is going to be such a hard one to find. “Well me and my bird friends each caught a little bit of what they were saying so if you can find my other two friends you will be able to find the chest they were carrying.” The bird tells me, “I heard one of them repeating a number.” What was the number I ask. "Come closer and I’ll tell you" says the bird. I ask the bird what the number means? He replies, “I dunno like I said, these guys were pretty weird. I guess you’d have to be just as weird as them to figure it out.”

“I guess you’ll be wanting to find my two friends to figure this one out, huh?” Of course, now I was hooked I needed to know what was in that chest, I pleaded with the bird to tell me where to find his friends. “I only know where one of my friends is now, so that’s all the help I can give you. My buddy is about 240 metres north of here. I ain’t never seen his hangout but he keeps calling it, The Broken limb Inn” I pleaded with the bird to give me more information, because this is a big park. “I can give you some numbers that might help you to find him. Do the numbers 06.840 by 19.225 mean anything to you?” When I answered yes, the bird responded, “I thought so you look pretty geeky too”

So off I went in search of another brown bird, still wondering when this burrito-induced dream was gonna end. I kept on the trail headed northeast about 120m from the first bird until I came to a T in the trail, do I go north or do I go south? Hmmmm, wait a minute the first bird said his buddy was north of him; guess I’m going north.

After nearly knocking myself out on a tree crossing the trail, I picked myself up and kept walking up the hill to the bend in the trail about 120m from the T. Off to my left I heard the faint song of the next brown bird.

So making my way through the brush and heading west I followed what sounded like the birds song. I walked until I saw what had to be the “Broken Limb Inn” This is pretty weird; I wonder what could have caused that, I thought to myself, but hey I guess it’s just a dream…. Peering inside, I found the second bird.

This little guy seemed a lot more frightened than the last bird and spoke only in rapid short bursts. “Weird guys, geeky looking, carrying box, very scary, things around their necks, very strange, dropped numbers, I have, I have, must hide.” I said, dude chill out, talk slower, you got way too much caffeine in your birdseed. After he calmed down a bit he offered me a scrap of paper the two geeks must have dropped. So I said “Wait a minute this is no good it only gets me half way there.” The bird says, “My brother has the other half of the numbers. We fought over the paper and it ripped in half” Where is your brother? The bird says, “He likes to sit in the hills south west of here about 190 metres, near the creek. But be careful I think he has a few rocks in his head. You know a few bricks shy of a load” I said, “dude that creek is pretty long how am I gonna find him?”. The bird says, “Try these numbers, do they help you out?” Strange, even though there seemed to be a few numbers missing from the beginning, somehow they made sense.

So off I go heading southwest past a fire pit with garbage all around, so I think to myself maybe someone should clean this mess up. After nearly taking out my knees on a fallen tree, I decide to go down the hill and walk along the creek. After walking about 170 metres from the Broken Limb Inn I start hearing that weird bird song again, but where is it coming from? I think its coming from the left, up on the side of the hill. The song this time sounds like something out of a bad Stephen King movie. All I can make out is “Red Rock, Red Rock” Red Rock? Hmmm, that rock looks kinda pink to me, maybe this bird is colour blind as well as crazy. So I scramble up the hillside maybe 20ft searching for the last bird. Aha, there you are my fine-feathered friend; I need the other half of that paper! The bird wouldn’t respond he just kept on screaming “Red Rock, Red Rock”. Ok I had enough of this Red Rock noise, I had to get that paper; I needed to find the chest. I’d come this far I wasn’t giving up now. What to do? What can I do? I know, bribery always works, so I reach into my pocket and find what’s left of a half eaten spicy burrito, I know what your thinking, what is this guy doing with half a burrito in his pocket? Well c’mon cut me some slack, remember this is my dream and I like spicy burritos. Well this whacked out bird gulps down the extra spicy burrito and man you should have seen his eyes bug out. Well, he flew off so fast I’m sure he could have out flown a 747. Well, my hopes of finding the treasure faded as I watched my little friend fly off, until I saw that underneath where the bird once sat was a piece of paper.

This is it!!! The last part of the puzzle!!! Now off to find the chest!!! Quickly I put all of the clues together to figure out where the box was hidden, and off I ran until I came upon the area. Thinking to myself, “where would I hide if I were a treasure chest? Would I be buried? Nope it’s all rock around here. That’s it! That’s where I would hide. Quickly I uncovered my quest and entered the secret code. Fingers shaking, nerves twitching, my anticipation building, I opened the box. It was like light itself jumped from the box and alarms rang out loudly. Beep - Beep – Beep - Beep. What is that sound? The noise was ripping through my skull make it stop, please make it stop…. It was my alarm clock waking me from my burrito induced nightmare. It was a dream, all just a dream… Now I’ll never know what was in that chest .

Good luck and Happy Caching!
