Short, moderate walk, difficult terrain in places.
We read about this place in ‘Wainwright in the Limestone Dales’ and since we fancied giving it a go, thought we might as well put a cache nearby. There is free parking for quite a few cars at Selside. Follow the path from the car park until you reach a gate - there is a 50p charge for visitors to Alum Pot, Diccan and Long Churn Beck caves but we placed the cache further up on the open moor. Pass Alum Pot, cross the beck and follow the path around to a style over the wall. Cross the style and keeping the wall to your left follow the path until you rejoin the beck - you are on your own from here. TAKE EXTREME CARE approaching the cache as there are variations in the surrounding terrain – watch out for holes as there are quite a few – not one to attempt in the dark!!About 100 yards beyond the cache, keeping Ingleborough to your left, there is a ‘friendly’ cave in a green hollow where walkers can ‘test their nerves in the darkness and silence of the underworld and may safely do so without encountering perils’. The cave is narrow and low at the entrance but immediately opens to a straight passage with a high roof providing very easy walking for approximately 250 yards. PLEASE TAKE THE PHOTO OF THE ENTRANCE WITH YOU SO AS NOT TO ATTEMPT ANY OTHER CAVE IN ERROR, WHICH MAY IN FACT BE DANGEROUS!!! Have Fun and Enjoy!!Cache contains: Clowns, Reflectors, Light up Pen, Glitter Tattoo, Screen Wipes, Padlock, Car Scratch, Mini Torch, Easter Chick and TB Thunderbird 2
