JohnnyRotten: This was the first CITO event for the Hilltop Reservation. I am very appreciative of those who came to help out that day. Several tons of trash was moved out to the roadway, and over half of it has already been removed by the County DPW. Thanks again to all who attended. [:D}

Geocache Description:

This is the first CITO event for the Essex County Hilltop Reservation.

The Essex County Hospital Center (sanitarium) has been downsizing over the years and is now to the point that only a few patients remain in some of the buildings. Essex County has sold off the property and part of the deal that the builders would designate an area to become a reservation. It was hence called the Hilltop Reservation. There are approximately 230+ acres that will be home to hiking trails, a nature preserve and a host of other recreational activities. Please come on May 1, 2004 (rain date 5/02/04) and help Heal the Hilltop. There is still much debris from the years that the buildings sat dormant before being razed. Although the buildings are all gone, much debris remains. Please bring work gloves and footwear suitable for working in a wooded area. Water and snacks will be supplied by me, Johnny Rotten.
