Geocache Description:

This micro cache is located at a town park west of the village of Camillus. If you're on Ike Dixon Road, you're headed right toward it.

The cache is a mid-size vitamin-pill bottle only large enough for very small trade items. It is hidden in a location that was formerly a farm owned by my (Molly's) materal second cousin, Dorothy Halloran, and Dorothy's husband, Larry. During my early growing-up years I visited the Halloran farm on occasion with my parents and my maternal grandparents. Many years ago the Hallorans created a swimming pond on their land and during the summer months, families (including the Finn McCool and Molly family of five)visited the pond to spend lazy summer days swimming, hiking, and enjoying picnics in the pastoral setting the Hallorans offered to the public for nothing more than a minor parking fee. While Larry stood at the entrance to the parking area collecting his entrance fees, Dorothy could always be found at their small refreshment stand, busy cooking hot dogs and doling out frosty-cold drinks and ice cream for a small sum, while local college kids earned their summer money by working life guard duty. Eventually the family-owned park became more work than the Hallorans wanted to be responsible for in their senior years and so they closed up the "old swimming hole", much to the disappointment of the residents of the town of Camillus. Several years ago the town came to an agreement with Larry Halloran to purchase the Halloran farm and turn it into a town park. It's a wonderfully picturesque park boasting swimming, a playground for the children, picnic areas, and a pleasant walking path surrounding the pristeen pond. Entry to the park is free of charge though there is a modest fee for those who choose to swim. There is large parking lot and also a small parking area located at the highest elevation of the park. There is also a handicapped-accessable parking area at the lower end of the park. A wonderful 4th of July concert and fireworks display is held annually and is very well attended. Finn and I hope that our fellow geocachers will enjoy this beautiful park as much as we do. To access the cache site you could park in the main parking lot. However, we suggest that you park in the smaller lot which is adjacent to the three flag poles marking the three park monuments honoring our veterans. The view from this spot overlooks the park and is lovely. History buffs might enjoy searching for the five Camillus cemeteries listed on one of the three monuments as places where the names of twenty-four Revolutionary War soldiers can be found. Use of the following coordinates will take you to the suggested smaller parking area: N 43 03.737 W 076-21-147
