You will begin in front of a statue. At the base of this object
is a stylised map of Canberra. Somewhere on the map is a year (the
year this object was made). Add 23 to the year and the result will
now equal ABCD.
The final destination is S35 16.B32 E149 07.C56. This should be
no more than 100 metres away.
While you are in this area there are three places to see.
A short history of the ACT Legislative Assembly
In 1988, the people of the Australian Capital Territory voted in
a referendum regarding self-government. They voted no, but the
Federal Government decided to give it to them anyway.
Since 1989, a Legislative Assembly containing 17 elected members
has administered the ACT. Although it can make its own laws, the
Federal Government still has the ability to over-ride (similar to
Northern Territory).
The home of the Assembly was renovated in the mid 1990's. You
are allowed to drop in and watch a session or you can take part in
tours (you must call beforehand).
