With the days becoming shorter and harder to find caches during the day
this cache is intended to be completed at NIGHT, and while it may not take you
to new places it will give you a new perspective on the places it does. It is
also not meant to be one of the easiest caches in the area hence the difficulty
rating.
Canberra is not renown for it's ghost stories however we have managed
to come up with a few, we will leave it to you to decide on their authenticity.
For this cache we would recommend you take along a few items (it is up to you
when and where you use them) these items are:
This cache consists of 5 locations these include:
- A Start Point,
- 3 x Micro Caches, and
- A Final Location
In each of the micro caches (no swaps required) you will find the coordinates
to the next location and a short story about the site you are at, and the final
cache contains the usual items as well as a story. All of the caches have been
marked with Red Reflectors to make them easy to see under torch light. In addition
to this the final cache has the ability to Glow in the Dark. A photo of all
the containers is available in the gallery.
At the start location you will need to find the pole with number 63683 and
look up at the light and see what colour it shines at night (may appear different
in daylight). To find the next location you will need to take this colour and
apply the following:
- If the light shines RED go to S35° 17.791 E149° 07.745
- If the light shines WHITE go to S35° 17.845 E149° 09.574
- If the light shines ORANGE go to S35° 16.193 E149° 09.490
- If the light shines GREEN go to S35° 17.324 E149° 05.012
As with all the points the start point has a story behind it,
Two young brothers living in Canberra had difficulty convincing themselves
(let alone others) that the modest house they rented in Red Hill was haunted. They heard
footsteps in the night and the dining room light flickered constantly. Any doubts
that a ghost was the cause were dispelled when one of the two had some photographs
developed. Among his 'shots' was one taken in the lounge room. In the background
was their television (turned off when the photo was taken) and clearly visible
on the screen was the head of a strange man.
In a letter to the Sun-Herald the young men's mother described the image as
looking 'like someone from George Washington's time'. Now there's a curious
analogy! Had the ghost popped over from the United States Embassy or was it
perhaps the shade of some British officer from Australia's colonial past?
We hope you enjoy completing this cache and photos of you completing it at
night are invited. Please DO NOT post the colour of the light in your log even
if it is encrypted.
