Cycling the scenic, remote roads of Central Texas is one of my favorite things to do when I’m not Geocaching. Most cyclists are always on the lookout for good ride maps, and most geocachers are on the lookout for scenic places to cache. So here you go! This is my third in a series I’ll call Cycle Central Texas where I’ll combine my two hobbies.
Kyle Krossing: Ride the back roads from Buda through Mountain City to Kyle where you can stop at the pie shop for a snack. Enjoy the fast down hill run on the access road until you turn off into the countryside again to head toward the little park along the Blanco River where you can jump in and cool off if you need to. This not-too-hilly loop is 25 miles long and is appropriate for an intermediate rider used to a little bit of traffic on short parts of the ride. There are plenty of opportunities for water on the route.
Combine this route with Cycle Central Texas – Old San Antonio Road for a 38-mile total trip. Caches along the way include Buda Budda and Rest Area Bingo.
If you MUST drive instead of ride to the cache site, please drive carefully and watch out for cyclists who may be right around the next curve. It could be ME!
