Geocache Description:

Welcome to Bill & Gary’s Excellent Adventure III: Going For The Gold

As we all know the Summer Olympic Games will be held again this year. It is a time for us to come together, to cheer the best athletes that we, as a nation, have to offer. It is a time for ordinary people to push themselves to extraordinary lengths, to dig deeper, jump higher and run faster. It is time when couch potatoes across the nation say: “I bet I could run a marathon”, “That high diving thing doesn’t look so tough” or maybe, “If I didn’t have to work so hard sitting here on the couch, I bet I could bring home a medal.” You may be asking yourself: “Why is it important; what does it have to do with me?” We are glad you asked because this year you, too, will be “Going for the Gold” as you quickly spring your way through Bill & Gary’s Excellent Adventure III.

For those of you new to the Adventure, allow me to explain the concept. Hidden at Stony Creek and Wolcott Mill Metroparks is a multi-cache adventure. You have been given the first set of coordinates, the rest are yours to earn. Each cache is a plastic container where you will find a short information package and a business-sized card. Read the information carefully, take a card, study the clue and off you go to the next set of coordinates. Collect one card from each of the five caches, present them to the receptionist at the park office and you will qualify for a drawing of gifts in January 2005. The Adventure will continue until the park office closes on 12/31/04. Winners will be contacted by mail.

Are you ready to go for the gold? Everyone knows times are tight and Bill & Gary’s Excellent Adventure is not immune to a little financial belt tightening. This year we have been forced to downsize the Adventure: Can you say micro-cache? Hidden within the parks are five gold medals, each one a mere one and a quarter inch in diameter. That is one medal for roughly every 1100 acres of park. Your goal is to locate each medal, which will give you the information needed to find the hidden cache. Find the cache, take a cache card, study the clue and on you go to the next gold medal. You have the coordinates to the first gold medal where you will be given the rest of the information needed to find the first cache. Remember to read all the information available to you. Study all of the hints and “Go for the Gold.” Sounds simple enough, we will see….

The time has come for a couple deep knee bends, grab that Strawberry-Kiwi Gatorade in the back of the fridge and get moving. We will be cheering you on from the sidelines.

As with last year’s adventure, all of the caches are readily accessible from within the park. Parking lots for each facility are clearly marked and roadside parking is not allowed. Park rangers will issue tickets, so please use the parking lots while in the park. If you wish to park on the parameter of the park, please refrain from parking on or crossing private property.

Let the Games Begin, and as always, the satellites are waiting….

Deer management will be taking place at Stony Creek on November 8/9 and 20/21. Portions of the Adventure may not be accessible during these dates. Sorry for any inconvenience.
