Cadair Idris / Chair of Idris Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

Victor4291: After a great deal of thought I have decided to archive several of my caches in the Cader Idris area and free up space for others to utilise. It is time for a fresh batch of caches and some new series in this greatly loved area.
All the containers will be collected over a period of time, as soon as i can safely get out to the areas concerned.
If you come across one of my caches please leave it in situ as i will be collecting them soon.
Any trackables in archived caches will be collected first and moved on.
Thank you to all those who visited the caches over the past few years, your visits and logs have been greatly welcomed.

Geocache Description:

Cadair Idris, the second most visited mountain in Snowdonia.

Cadair Idris seen from the Rhinogs

From the north, it’s a huge wall of mountain as impressive as any in the National Park.
The geocache letterbox hybrid is sited east of the summit of Penygadair on the slopes of Mynydd Moel with glorious views of the lakes Llyn Cau and Talyllyn.

We would advise that you do not attempt in adverse weather conditions!

There are three well defined routes to the summit.
The Fox’s and Pony paths on the north flank, and our own particular favourite, the Minfford path on the south.
This is classic hill walk to the summit with a visit to Cwm Cau, regarded as the most perfect mountain corrie in Britain.

Eight geocaches available along route by gwyddno - dysynni squeezeboxers -
climber 58 - charlieOpzo...on a clock-wise round they are:-

Starting from the car park at the old Idris estate OS SH732116 on the south side of Cadair Idris off the B4405 close to the junction with the A487.
This is a straightforward, but mildly strenuous circular walk, allow approximately 2 1/2 hours to reach the summit of Cadair Idris Penygadair at 2,927ft.(893m) distance 7 miles return(11km)
There are no refreshments anywhere nearby.

Follow the path close to the Nant Cadair stream, climbing steeply through woodland, continue along the well- trodden path to reach the Llyn Cau cache.
Bird watchers may be treated to the sight of the Red Kites soaring above!
Rejoin the Minfford path climbing steeply past Craig Cau and eventually to the summit and shelter of Penygadair.
Now head north-east with excellent views down into Cwm Gadair from the top of the Fox’s path.
Follow the cliff edge (on the left) towards Mynydd Moel.

The geocache is now close-by!

Optional circular return route from the summit is via a ladder stile and fence line which runs south east down over the slopes of Mynydd Moel, with an opening view into Cwm Cau to the right.
Descend to a ladder stile at OS SH732125, cross the stile and follow the path back to the Nant Cadair stream and Minfford path for your return to the car park.

Found in the letterbox hybrid will be a unique rubber stamp! NOT FOR SWAP
What do I do with the stamp? You use your own inkpad to ink it up, (with colour of your choice ) and then take an impression on to a plain postcard or notebook.
This is the copy of the stamp that you take away with you,the reward for all your effort.
If you have a rubber stamp of your own, stamp that into the visitor’s log.
Simple isn't it!

Have fun!
