Geocache Description:

Come have a luxurious soak at one of Mammoth Lakes Ultra Secret, man made Geo-Thermal Hot Tubs, with an INCREDIBLE view!

IMPORTANT UPDATE NOTE: JUNE 2006

Due to the fact that someone stole my cache, I've decided to MOVE the Cache to a MUCH BETTER and safer location. The new cache site is just far enough away that I will probably have to create a new cache page. Until then you can find the new cache here:

N 37 39.490
W 118 47.307

IN ORDER TO GET TO THE ACTUAL HOT TUB FROM THE CACHE:
You must retreive the final coordinates found in the Geo-Cache, at the front of the Log Book.

Hilltop Tub is probably the best known, most popular man made geo-thermal Hot tubs in the Mammoth Lakes area, and is accessible year-round. In the Winter and Spring you can get to the tub by walking about 600 yards from the Geo-Cache, and in the summer time you can usually drive right up to within 400 feet of the tub, as long as the ground isn't too wet or too bumpy.

From the parking area you walk 400 feet up a sleight knoll (due North) over some wooden pallets lying on the swampy Alkaline ground, to get to the Tub.

The tub is made out of rocks and concrete. It's about 8 feet in diameter and 2 feet deep, and is gravity fed by a large pvc pipe coming from a nearby (very hot) geo-thermal water source. There is a butterfly valve near the tub to control the water flow volume and temperature.

From the hot tub there is an INCREDIBLE 360 degree view of the surrounding local mountains (Mt. Morrison (south), Mammoth Mountain (west) and the White Mountains (east). There is absolutely NOTHING more amazing or wonderful as sitting in this tub in the still of the night, under a myriad of gorgeous stars!

If you are planning on going to this Tub, keep in mind that this tub may not be private; if you're in it, you might have unwanted naked company. If this is a problem, you might want to check out some other Hot Tubs in the area or not come at prime time because a lot of Mammoth locals and tourists come here. But...in my experience...when people see that you are already in the tub, they typically won't bother you.

WARNING: Please be careful when getting into the Tub because the concrete in the tub can be VERY slippery! Trust me, I learned this the hard way when I did a back flip into the tub with a HUGE splash, and I have the picture to prove it! Also, please don't venture too far away from the Tub, you might burn yourself in the VERY HOT geo-thermal ground water.
