Geocache Description:

This exploration of Hamsterville is an extension of the HAMSTERVILLE HIJINKS geocache (GCJCRJ), although both multi/puzzle caches can be done independently if desired. Either way, park at the above coordinates along Beckleysville Road in the Prettyboy Reservoir watershed. While this adventure starts at the same place as the first it uses a different trail and goes to another area. If you wish to do this adventure by itself then scamper southeast along the dirt fire road on the east side of Beckelysville Road to coordinates N39° 38.479, W076° 45.668, where the First Clue Site is located. If you are doing this cache in conjunction with the first HAMSTERVILLE HIJINKS geocache, then from that one’s final cache site walk about 100 feet on a bearing of 60° until you encounter the fire road, then head toward the same coordinates given above for the First Clue Site. Total distance from parking area to the final cache is just under one mile, so double it for a round trip. The trail is wide and clear with gentle slopes, and is easy afoot most of the way.

For those who have not completed the first HAMSTERVILLE HIJINKS or read its description, Hamsterville is a little known world inhabited by a community of curious hamster-folk who possess an assortment of interesting traditions and activities. Hamsterville encompasses hidden fields and woods throughout the patchwork landscape of the Piedmont region, and these cache adventures offer glimpses into some of Hamsterville’s elusive residents and their often peculiar activities. In the first Hamsterville geocache the focus was on fun things to do in the community. In this geocache you will learn about other games and competitions the residents enjoy. You will discover these by finding four clue sites and the final cache that highlights the Number One Favorite Sport in Hamsterville. Each clue site of this multi-cache is located just off the main trail and will highlight a favorite Hamsterville activity. They will also provide coordinates to the next site. In addition, you will find clues that will be needed in order to locate the final cache, where items are available for trade. The first four clue sites are about the size of a playing card, and the final cache container is a green metal ammo box. From each clue site go back to the main trail, which will take you near the next site. The final cache is located in an exclusive waterfront neighborhood of Hamsterville near the scenic shores of Prettyboy Reservoir. Although the area abounds in quaint burrows and stump bungalows, the residents themselves may be difficult to see without rose-colored glasses.

Final cache coordinates will be in the form:

Latitude: N 39° 3S.TUV’ Longitude: W076° 4W.XYZ’

To determine the coordinates of the final cache use information obtained at the clue sites as follows:

From CLUE SITE No. 1
S = The number of letters shown in the second word of the caption
W = The number of letters shown in the first word of the caption plus the number of hikers shown

From CLUE SITE No. 2
U = The total number of hamsters shown minus 9
Y = The number of apples visible

From CLUE SITE No. 3
T = Number of riders shown
X = The number of spectators shown

From CLUE SITE No. 4
V = # of bananas (whole or parts) plus # of hamster heads visible
Z = # of arms visible

NOTE: As the sign at the trailhead indicates hunters may be present during hunting season but the general public is welcome. Also, stay on or south of the fire road for the first few hundred yards since to the north the land is well-posted as private property. If you choose to pursue this multi-cache you agree to assume all risks involved and hold the owner and sponsor(s) harmless from any damages real or imagined.

Please do not remove any items attached to the cache box lid, and close the lid very carefully to avoid damaging the lid contents. All Hamsterville materials and graphics copyrighted by Joelscapes.

FTF: Signed keepsake memento suitable for framing of the special sporting event highlighted in the final cache
