Geocache Description:

Hope y'all like mud !!

Who feels they are ready to call themselves a "Marlboro Man"? (or woman for that matter)

This is a multi-waypoint geocache. Start to finish is approximately 11 km - you can certainly hike it, but we strongly suggest bringing your bike.

Waypoint 1: Posted coordinates will bring you to one of the Marlborough Forest trailheads.

Waypoint 2: When you reach the starting point you'll find a gate with a large sign on it. At the bottom of the sign is a phone number in the form XXX-YYYY (sign is missing so here's the number: 580-2400). The next redirect is calculated by doing the following:

AAA = XXX - 123
BBB = XXX - 329
and then substituting into: N45 05.AAA W075 49.BBB

Waypoint 3: When you reach waypoint 2 you will be searching for a redirect tag (thanks to RugglesWhyte) that will send you on your way to waypoint 3.

Waypoint 4: At waypoint 3 you will find a pole with a 5 digit number on it (large silver number). Call the 5 digit number D, and then do the following projection:

Waypoint Projection: (D-10698) metres, (D-12059) True North

From there on until the final cache you'll be redirected by easy to find waypoint redirects. Most of the redirects will be found on blue tags with white numbers (eye level on the back of nearby trees). All redirects are very close to the trail - until you get near the cache zone of course. For each redirect you will find two numbers. You know the drill...

  • Replace the lowest-order digits of the North coordinate of the waypoint with the first set of digits
  • Replace the lowest-order digits of the West coordinate with the second set of digits

This will give you the coordinates of the next waypoint. Repeat as necessary until you reach the cache.

Dry

Wet

The cache is in an ammo box hidden out of sight and up off the ground. Please be very careful to leave it exactly as you found it (add cover if necessary).

Pictures are encouraged BUT be careful about what shows up in the background of your photos. Please do not include any spoilers in your logs.

I'm in the mud and the mud's in me...

TRIPPER

NOTES:

  1. Winter friendly - BUT then you would miss out on all the mud.
  2. This area is used for hiking, mountain biking, and x-c skiing... be sure to share the trail.
Originally we were going to call this The Marlboro Rambler or Marlboro Mud Puppy. Guess we'll save those names for our future Marlboro caches.
