this cache is hidden at the first dude ranch in montana.
The OTO, Montana's 1st dude ranch, opened in the late 1800's. The ranch operated until the late 1940s as a place for "Eastern city folk" to enjoy the Western mountain experience. It remained pretty much untouched until the late 80s when the US Forest Service bought the land. The ranch has slowly deteriorated over the years, but there has recently been an increase in voluntary efforts to restore the ranch. The ranch is on Forest Service land. There is a service road that leads to it, but it is closed to all motorized vehicles. Horseback, mountain biking, and hiking are the only ways up this 1.5 mile road. The first half mile is the hardest with a 300 ft. elevation gain. The rest is easy. The cache is a green ammo box.Turn east off Hwy 89 at the 10 mile marker onto Cedar Creek Road. Follow the road 1/2 mile to the Road Closed sign, park in parking area on right. Pack a lunch and have a picnic on the OTO porch. Remember raingear.
