Big Tree Above Manoa Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Minnesota Dave: Since this cache is not doing well, I will in fact archive it! (I have not had good internet access in recent weeks). I did put out a plea for maintenance of the cache in the past and some good people helped, but the problem has been that the container I used (a plastic paint bucket) did not work out well to be airtight and so even renewed contents have gotten wet. As the location is not seen to be very good by some anyway, rather than put out any renewed options for adoption I find it best just to end this one so someone else can find a better location in this area of the ridge. Thank you all for your visits, informative comments and aid for this cache in the last few years. If in the area feel free to TO (trash out) or salvage any remaining elements of the cache, and if it is still there on my next Hawaii visit I will be glad to check on its remains myself.

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden at the base of the largest tree in the area. It is well camouflaged since there are a few people who seem to camp and meander around this whole ridge.

Good views of Manoa can be seen in this general area. The hike to the cache site is very quick if done from the Park above, which is entered from Ruth Pl. It is a longer uphill hike (but not overly difficult) from where the path starts at Dole Ave. & just East of Manoa Stream.

You will have to plunge through some bushes as you close in on the cache. Be careful in your final approach and departure from the cache... the ridge is slippery when wet and even a bit when dry. Avoid going further downhill after the cache as the ridge does get steeper and part of it turns into a cliff.

*Speical request - Due to the cache container which is not always airtight, the logbook is extremely damp and needs replacing and resealing. Since I am in India and only visit Manoa periodically, I request for some nice future visiting geocacher that if you have the time, to bring a new logbook of any sort sealed up in a new bag or even small container to keep it dry. That will be a big help. Mahalo!
