Geocache Description:

Green Cove railway station is the only original (1915) depot left on a rail-to-trail path.

During the WWI years until about 1928, logging barons constructed roads into remote parts of Appalachia to take out the old growth timber. This station preserves much of the atmosphere of the old post office/general store/meeting house. The station never really closed after RFD caused the locals to cease daily visits to the post office in 1958. Most of the relics on the shelves date from that era, but some are still from the Depression Era: can you spot the broom holder? The train stopped running in 1977. The station is open 10-4, spring to fall. It is managed by the US Forest Service. Terrain is easy if you're driving or coasting downhill, more challenging if you bicycle up the path. Micro cache is a film container; sign and date.
