Big Blowout Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Jeeper Jimmy: Guess it’s time to put this one away. Geocachers just don’t seem to have the interest in doing anything more than ‘Park and Grab, anymore. It’s been four years since there has been any interest in this one (only one in the past seven years). Sorry to see it go.

Geocache Description:

Having seen accounts of cachers making finds of 30 or more caches in a day, we have decided that some folks in this sport need a little more challenge. This is a slightly more complex multi cache intended to exercise your GPS operational skills, your navigational skills, and, perhaps, give you a little exercise. There is a little climbing involved, but, for the most part, it’s all on a good trail; take the kids along.

At the listed coordinates, you will find a micro cache containing the latitude of the final cache as well as directions to a second micro cache. The second micro cache contains the longitude of the final cache. This will take you to a very interesting area. I’m not too sure where this canyon came by it’s name; Seems I’ve heard in the past that there was an explosion which blew out the mountainside; the only mention I can find in the library of ‘Blowout Canyon’ states that it was named because of a large mineral vein that showed in the canyon wall. At any rate, it’s an interesting place for a hide. You can park near the turnaround at N 43º 17.609, W 111º 5.267. The road into this location is not bad, but probably isn’t one where you’d care to take your father’s Oldsmobile (nor my Best Friend’s T-Bird.) Nearly any vehicle can make it, but be careful. The final cache is a short hike from the parking area (kinda uphill) and it’s within about 10 feet of the main trail.) It’s probably a good plan to check the gallery before you start on this--maybe take a couple of prints with you.
