This micro cache is located near the Preston England Mormon Temple.
Despite its name, the temple is located in Chorley, not Preston. Rumour has it that planning permission in Preston was refused, so it had to be built in Chorley instead. It is reputedly the second largest Mormon temple in the world.
The name of this cache is ironic, because it is practically impossible to get a good view of the temple, as the Mormons have made sure that they cannot be overlooked. The Temple and grounds are not open to the public, so please do not trespass in the area. The cache is not located in the temple grounds.
The temple was built in 1998, has a single spire and is constructed from Olympia white granite from Sardinia. It is set in 15 acres of grounds and the construction cost has been estimated in various sources to be upwards of £50m. There is no doubt that it is one of the most architecturally striking buildings in the area, whether you think of it as splendid or gaudy, so I’ll let you make your own mind up.
It is best to park up at the pub near the cache location, just off the A6. It is very near junction 8 of the M61, and so can be reached without having to put up with the dreadful plethora of roundabouts in Chorley. The cache is a film canister.
