ANYBODY HEADED TO LOCATE THIS CACHE...PLEASE TAKE A NEW CONTAINER
TO REPLACE THE OLD DAMAGED ONE...I've moved out of State so it is
impossible for me to make the needed repairs...THANKS...3-Corner's
Cache #1 is the first in a series of Utah state boundary caches
offered by Geo*Guy and his caching buddy, billybob7. Most of us are
familar with, or have personally visited, the four corners region
of southern Utah, where the state boundaries of Utah, Colorado,
Arizona and New Mexico intersect. There we can prostrate ourselves
on the monument and tell all our friends that we were in four
states at the exact same time. But how many of us can say that we
have visited the other corners of the State of Utah, where 3 states
intersect? The purpose of this series of 3-Corner Caches is to
allow the Geocaching family to explore the State of Utah from
corner to corner, where our state boundaries intersect with two
other neighboring states.
3-Corners Cache #1 is located in the upper northeastern corner
of the state where the state boundaries of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming
intersect. This cache is accessed from County Road 207, a paved road
which runs north/south between Sage Creek Junction, Utah and
Cokeville, Wyoming. Do not mistakenly continue along State Road 30,
which is the main road between the two and parallels this county
road. Approximately 6-7 miles outside Cokeville, there is a small
sign on the west side of the road that says 'monument'. Open the
gate of the livestock fence and proceed 4 miles west up Crystal
Canyon to the mounument. Make sure to close the gate behind you as
this is cattle grazing land. This dirt road requires a high ground
clearance vehicle, so passenger cars are not recommended. You can
drive to within a few hundred feet of the monument. The last few
hundred feet is a steep jeep trail that has been severely eroded by
inconsiderate 4-wheelers. Please park your vehicle below and hike
that last few hundred feet. It's a good cardio workout and will
help prevent further destruction of the mountainside. If you're up
for more hiking, you can hike to the top of Red Mountain and get a
view of Bear Lake.
The cache is located on the Utah side. The original contents of
this cache include: notepad and pencil, bag of marbles, pedometer,
miniature briefcase business card holder, Canadian dollar bill,
Danish 5 Kroner coin & Guatemalan 25 Centavos coin.
By the way, don't forget to log the BENCHMARK embedded in the
monument.
