Geocache Description:

Beautiful views over Bradford-on-Avon when visiting this cache. Park down Church Street for a walk up the hill or take the Winsley Road at the top of the hill and park in the free car park in Budbury Place. The cache is a small magnetic container.

The Chapel of St Mary sits at No.38 Tory, Bradford on Avon. The earliest mention of the chapel in history books is by John Leland who wrote of 'a chapel on the highest place of the town as I entered'. In c.1670 John Aubrey described it as 'the finest Hermitage I have seen in England'.In the early 18th century the chapel was converted into a cloth factory and was abandoned in the early 19th century. In 1869 when only the east side remained standing, it was bought and restored by Mr T B Saunders and by 1871 it was again being used for worship as a chapel. I believe the chapel remains open to the public at all times nowadays so it is possible to look inside. On the outside it offers beautiful views of Bradford-on-Avon as does the whole network of small quaint alleyways surrounding it which are well worth discovering.
N.B. This cache should be easy to find but if you do have a problem knock on No.37 (next to the church) and ask for Al - The Keeper of the cache. He knows where it is.
