Geocache Description:

Subtitle this event "Everything you ever wanted to know about the geeky side of geocaching, but were afraid to ask!" coordinates are now N30 13.727 W97 42.410 -- more info below.

EVENT IS NOW RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JULY 24. Time is 10:30 A.M. to 4 P.M. at the Ruiz Branch Library, 1600 Grove, just off East Riverside Drive.

How do I do these pocket query things?? How do I get waypoints into my GPS? What software makes it easy to search for geocache waypoints northwest of my house? These questions, and any others you want to ask, will be answered by geo-geeks "in the know" at this fun event.

We are still developing the "curriculum" for the event. You may participate in this process by joining Central Texas Geocachers' Yahoo Group and making your desires known.

Plan to bring your PDA or laptop, if you have one, with power cord and/or interface cable. We will have wireless access and you can learn by doing on many of the software packages.

We will be able to support a much larger audience due to the move to the library, and the format will be an "open house", where you can come in to visit and learn for 15 minutes, 2 hours, or all day. Plan to stay in Austin all day - I'm sure we can find you a "tour guide" to go visit some of Austin's best caches, including two new and totally awesome night caches!

I would appreciate having 4 or 5 volunteers to bring light refreshments (finger food only, please!) and drinks, which we will share with participants and the library staff in the break room next to the meeting room. We'd also like to have about six volunteers to help presenters with errands, to possibly make a lunch run, and to take newbies outside to find a geocache if we have time to set a couple up. "Spare" GPSr's would be handy for that, as well.

More info will be posted as available! Please let us know if you are coming.
