Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Manistee National forest. The cache is located near a old firetower sight. It is a ammo box. The tower site is on a hill and the cache is located down a moderate incline. I didn't want to hide it right at the tower site because this site gets occasional visitors.

This fire tower is located at the highest point in Lake county. There is a access road that should be accessible by car without 4 wheel drive. Drive it at your own risk. The coordinates for the access road entrance are n44° 06.109' W 085° 54.294'. 4 wheel drive is not usually necessary but depending on weather conditions it may be. Stay on the main trail and you will drive right to the fire tower site. The site is obvious since the road runs right between the concrete footings, which is all that is left of the tower. When you leave I recomend going back out the way you came unless you have a smaller 4 wheel drive. If you do you can follow a loop that will bring you back to where you came in. Please make sure it is completely hidden when you put it back. The firetower gets some visitors. Extra caution should be taken during hunting season as this is a popular area for that.

Edit: 3/22/2020 the road has been blocked off just short of the tower site, there is an easy turn around there. Park here and go up the road past the stumps to check out what's left of the base of the tower.
