Geocache Description:

This cache is named for the nearby abandoned mine that, as far as I can determine, never produced any gold.

During the 1900s, several mines were excavated on Peavine mountain. The cache is near the Nevada Cental mine site which has been backfilled, although there's still a hole in the ground where the vertical shaft was. There's a large pile of mine waste nearby that attests to its original size.

An added feature of the cache site is a panoramic view from Sparks to Mogul, including the Truckee Meadows and Carson Range
