Geocache Description:

This is a relatively simple multi-cache taking you to some beautiful Wiltshire downland countryside with fantastic views and a lot of history. You will find 2 micro cache leading you to the final ammo box which is now 25 feet NE of the co-ordinates listed in the 2nd micro.

Car parking is best at N51° 12. 074’ W002° 07.800’ There is room for several cars here but please don’t block the tracks. Also being a relatively remote place please take the usual security precautions. The final cache you are seeking contains the usual items including plenty of toys for children, some books on photography, a camera to take a photo of yourself or team and a logbook. This cache is close to the site of the Medieval Village of Middleton. The walk which takes advantage of the Imber Range Perimeter Path, the Wessex Ridgeway and Bridleways to the East of Warminster provides opportunities, if you wish to extend your walk, to visit more than one hill fort, Battlesbury Hill, Middle Hill and Scratchbury Hill. There will be no need to depart significantly from paths and tracks. These hills, all within a mile or so of the suggested parking place, have some of the most stunning views and countryside in the South of England and added to this there is a lot of history here and some of the most unspoilt chalk downlands around with the associated fauna and flora. On the day I set this cache there were orchids by the thousand along with little blue butterflies, what a “glorious” sight! The area you will visit was loved by Siegfried Sassoon who lived very close by at Heytesbury House he even wrote a poem about the area "On Scratchbury Camp" see (visit link) The complete walk is just over 1 mile and can be done in much less than an hour. It involves a couple of short but steep climbs, so pushchairs and buggies are not advised. Nevertheless I’ve seen people struggling up there with them and still managing to look very pleased with themselves and their venture on the way back down. This place has attractions in fine weather that will bring people back time and time again.
