The cache is hidden on a hill above Todmorden very close to Dobroyd Castle. It’s a regular cache contained within a plastic box. The cache is under some fallen stones near a dry stone wall. There is some tree cover, so the reading may be a few metres out. Please note that the cache is on a public footpath, and you do not have to take any stones off walls to find the cache.
This cache was inspired by the former Buddhist Centre at near by Dobroyd Castle, Todmorden. As you will see from the contents.
Dobroyd Castle is an ornate mansion built by John Gibson at Dobroyd for John Fielden in 1866-9. There are many carvings and stained glass depicting the cotton industry and the life of John Fielden. It was used as a community home in the Seventies. There are three standing stones near to the castle. In 1995, the Castle was bought by monks from the New Kadampa Buddhist Tradition for £320,000 and the Losang Dragpa Centre was established. The former Buddhist College and Meditation Centre hosted an international community of about 30 people, both lay and ordained Buddhists from all walks of life.
There are many ways to approach this cache. Take a look at the map and chose one that you like. You cannot park on the narrow country road that is nearest to the cache, so it is best to park on one of the main roads and walk from there. It took us about 20mins. from the main road in Todmorden to walk to the cache (but a lot is up hill!).
Inside the cache, at the time of placing, were: Travel Bug Buddha of Dobroyd Log book & pencil, The Little Book of Buddhism, by the Dalai Lama Wooden Incense holder, Tibetan Meditation incense pack, Indian incense sticks from Bangalore, Ylang Ylang fragrance oil (for oil burners or pot pourri), CD with New Age relaxation music, Lotus flower greetings card, Ying Yang sticker sheet, Scented candle, Grey & pink Agate stone (helps relieve stress and worry), Amazinite stone (a calming crystal that promotes inner balance, focus & intuition), Clear Quartz crystal (promotes focus and clarity).
