This is a reasonably easy hike with only 120 feet of elevation gain, beginning on the Tahoe Donner Trail system and ending overlooking Prosser Hill.
The easiest route is to begin at Tahoe Donner Trailhead #44 which in on Pathway Ave. at approximate coordinates N39-21.443 W120-13.249. Head North on trail until a junction and head West towards trail marker #42. Follow a well marked trail until you reach coordinates approximately N39:21.520 W120:13.514, then leave trail on a bearing of approximately 350 degrees down hill to a chip landing. From there you follow a fire road to your final destination.
NOTE: Tahoe Donner trail signs are not up year round, and may not be posted even when the trail is passable. THIS IS BEAR COUNTRY, DO NOT PUT ANY FOOD ITEMS IN THIS CACHE. Also return cache exactly as found.
Alternatively you can take a longer, very beautiful Emigrant Trail. Begin at the Emigrant Trail head on Schussing Way. Head West for just under a mile, then begin to take a left at all trail junctions until you begin to climb in elevation. You will probably travel beyond the cache longitude and then circle back on it as you climb the ridge. This single track, mountain bike friendly, trail will eventually connect with the fire road. This route is a bit more strenuous, but well worth the hike.
