This cache commemorates the first time I saw a snake geocaching. It was in the middle of the trail at N30 06.464 W97 15.509, coiled up sleeping in a bunch of pine needles. It blended in perfectly and the only way I noticed it was when it stuck its head up. I IMMEDIATELY stopped and backed off. If you ask Wayne, The Outlaw, he'd say I jumped so high I was in orbit for a while. That's not the case, but I did jump back a bit.
The Bastrop State Park knows about this cache and has approved the placement.
Todd and Roger (officers with the Texas Parks Department) recommend walking past the snake location and then follow the old fence line to the cache location.
Since then, I've been on this trail many times and have NOT encountered another snake. Always keep an eye on the ground.
