Geocache Description:

This hike should get a "Wow" out of some of you! Be sure to bring a camera for this great view!

This hike is located in the Brandywine Heights area of Binghamton. You'll start hiking at the Wittman Dam which is part of the Brandywine Flood Control Project. You should be able to follow trails all the way to the cache site. You will skirt private property, but will not have to go on any of it. You'll eventually be in the area of the former Brickyard, and may well see some old bricks. Beside finding the cache there, you will find a very nice view. You can even see "Otsiningo Overlook" cache if you are familiar with the area.

Because of the former business there you may well see some broken glass. It is easy to avoid the glass (we had a 5 year old with us and felt comfortable), but it would be great if you did some cache-in-trash-out (CITO) activity. After a few cachers I think the place will be totally cleaned up.

There are a couple of ways to get to this cache, but you will be much happier if you don't have to bushwhack, or bring climbing equipment, so we suggest you park on Old State Road where Wittman Lane intersects it at N 42 07.697, W 075 53.082. You might think you can drive down Wittman Lane, but this is a private driving lane, although public access is allowed for walking and biking. Once you park, walk down Wittman Lane to get to the gate and the sign for the Dam. Listed there are activities you can and cannot do. This area cannot be accessed from sunset to 6AM.

This is a good cache for mountain biking. It is mostly strenuous double track all the way.

We placed this cache on Father's Day 2004, and were glad we found a good hiding spot. We hope you enjoy it, too. Please post pictures during all seasons so we can all get a good view of Binghamton.
