This section of railroad has an infamous history. It has been the site of at least 2 major accidents, the latest fortunately being over 30 years ago.

In 1976 a freight train left the tracks while going around the curve at this section of the Chicago and NorthWestern railroad. The reasons we have long since forgotten, however the results stick firmly in memory. One of the tanker cars, full of ammonia, ruptured and caused quite a problem spraying several hundred feet to the south of the tracks, this very area. My parents lived here at the time and were part of the group that were hurriedly evacuated.

Don't be nervous if a freight train comes by unless you hear a noise that sounds like....well...just don't be nervous.
