Geocache Description:

A dark coloured canister, hidden in bushland not far from the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Relatively easy terrain requiring a 10-15 minute walk and some sensible shoes!

Not far from Mackay this cache offers plenty of distractions for geocachers of all ages. When driving or making your way out to the location the locals have made their own mail boxes some good, some bad and some just plain ridiculous... spotting the funny ones might be a good way to keep the kiddies occupied along the way. Keep your eye out for slow moving vehicles as all sorts of tractors and trains appear magically when the sugar cane harvest is on.

Once in the area ample parking can be readily found and there are picnic tables and public BBQ's for those who want to stay for lunch. The cache itself is 10 minutes walk away from a park. If you a really keen to soak up the atmosphere you can even stay the night with camping, van sites, and even cabins available... but to use these you will have to pay the proprietors a small fee. There is also a kiosk for those who didn't bring their own snacks or refreshments. The wildlife in and around the park area is very tame and bandicoots, wallabies and brush turkeys are commonly seen and there are plenty of interesting walking trials in the area where you can see some more of the native flora and fauna if you want to explore a little. See the photos for more info.

What about the cache I hear you ask… well I haven’t made it impossible to find just a little difficult so that it’s still safe for children as this is a family friendly cache. It is easy to walk to, either by the beach or via a walking trail in the area which will burn some calories as you climb up a hill and down the other side... I would recommend some shoes nearing the end of the hunt or on the walking trail but you could possibly get by with out them if you approach from the beach. At high tide the beach route may be impassable meaning the walking trail is the only way in. At some times you will need insect repellent, particularly around dusk when there will be sand flies and mossies nibbling away… you might want to slip slop and slap as well. The place where the cache is hidden should be pretty clear from view but remember there may be others who might see you venture off into the wilderness so please check for geomuggles before leading them to the hiding place. Usually this area should be quite free from interference I would think.

Have fun and happy caching!
