Little Charlton Peak is in the San Gorgonio Mountains / Wilderness. This is an all day or multi day hike to over 10000 feet.
The peak is a bit of a walk from the nearest car (we think that this is a good thing). Take one of several trails to "Dry Lake View". From there a trace trail works its way up to the peak. Wilderness permits are required for the hiker as are USFS Adventure passes for the car (that is left behind). Little Charlton Peak is on the way to, and includes a view of San Gorgonio, the LA Basin (not necessarily a good thing), Dry Lake, and much of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Cache container is a half gallon clear plastic jar with a white top.
NOTE: In keeping in good faith with the San Gorgonio Wilderness Association, as of 10/7/06 the cache is no longer within the boundaries of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. The cache is NOT at posted coordinates. Physical caches are NOT allowed in San Gorgonio Wilderness. But, as part of your journey, you must get to the posted coordinates, find the summit register and obtain the final coordinates. This is now an offset/multi cache, with the actual physical cache very close to, but outside the wilderness boundary. The test for you is...which trail do I take?? There are six(6) trails leading up into the wilderness, all will get you to Little Charlton. It all depends on how many miles YOU wish to travel!! Happy Caching!! Hike Smart & Hike Safe!!
