The Perch is a beautiful thatched pub in the sleepy village of Binsey, to the
north west of Oxford city, just off of the River Thames. It can be found along a
narrow lane about 1 mile to the north of the Botley Road (A420); turning at N51
45.133, W001 16.628.

It has a very large garden with some lovely mature willows, a children's
adventure play area and a giant chess set, and a simple rustic feel inside. It
is a family and dog friendly pub with reasonably priced food and drink all
served by friendly staff, and for those wishing to bring their own food and
drink their is plenty of space just outside the pub, by the river for a picnic
It is located just over a mile walking/cycling distance from Oxford's city
centre making it an ideal location for bagging all those
UC &
COPQ caches in the centre, whilst not having to worry about parking the car.
Their are 20 caches within 2 miles, 40 within 5 miles and an extraordinary 100
within 15 miles (use postcode OX2 0NG for your searches). All this has all the
requisites for a fantastic afternoon of caching, or why not stop the weekend and
make the most of this opportunity (and perhaps break the outside London 24 hour
caching record). If you want info on camping, B&B or hotels, email me and I'll
try and sort out some info for you.

I shall be asking some of the local cachers if they can create some cache's to
be released to coincide with the event, and so far this is looking very
promising. These caches will initially only be available to people attending the
event in printed format from 1:00pm, and will become active caches for anyone to
search for and for logging of finds later that day, so hopefully their will be
plenty of opportunities for FTF's. I hope to have my laptop with me on the day
along with leads for a Magalen Sportrak, a Garmin eTrex and an iPAQ 3630
(probably suit other models as well), so I
should be able to provide an upload service for GPSr's (bring a cable if mine
are not suitable) for all new and existing caches in the area.
Could anyone creating caches for release at this event submit them in the usual
way, but adding a reviewers note that the cache is to be made live on the
evening of this event, 7th August. Could you also let me know what caches you
have created along with the basic details for entry into GPSr i.e. co-ords,
waypoint (GC***) and cache nickname, this will assist me to prepare laptop for
uploads. And on the day please make sure that you bring suitable quantities of
print outs for distribution with you.
If you are planning to come to this event, could you please
log your intent here. This will assist me by giving me an idea of the number of
cache sheets that will be required for the new caches and to give the management
at the Perch an idea of numbers to expect. Thanks for your co-operation.
