This is the sixth in my cache series dedicated to geocachers I have met while geocaching. It is a three stage suburban cache that I planted on Father’s Day; by coincidence I just learned that Moun10Bike and his wife are expecting their first child soon so be sure to congratulate them in your logs.
This cache series is based on the names of geocachers I have met while hunting geocaches. I first met Moun10Bike on Aug. 24th, 2002 at the Washington Geocachers Summer Roundup, but I met so many geocachers there that I decided it couldn’t entitle them to a cache in this series unless I wanted to spent the rest of my life planting these caches. Since then I have run into Moun10Bike two more times; on Sept. 27th, 2002 at Bigkid's ET Phone Home cache and on Oct. 26th, 2003 at JRO & Diddlefrog’s Salmonberry Cache. He helped me at the first cache and I returned the favor at the second. As always I gave Moun10Bike a one week head start before I post this cache so he was able to be the first to log his namesake cache.
This cache will take you for a short walk, mainly along a newly installed sidewalk. I did not give it a one terrain rating because it is all uphill and there is a short section of fairly rough terrain at the end. You can use a bike on your hunt but it is not necessary and you will need to stay on the sidewalk because you will be traveling in the wrong direction to use the street. This will make more sense after you read the rest of the instructions.
The posted coordinates will take you to the first bike you need to mount. Street side parking is available in the subdivision next to this bike. Once you have parked and located this bike, turn off your GPS and take a good look at it.
When you are ready, start walking uphill while counting the number of “identical” bikes you pass. Be sure to count the bike at the posted coordinates, but do not count the little bikes whose riders are not wearing helmets. That is not safe or legal in most of Washington State so these riders may be ignored!
When you reach the tenth bike turn on your GPS and load its coordinates. The cache is now located 0.039 minutes north and 0.035 minutes east of your current location.
The container is a 1-gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck box in a plastic bag. The original contents were; Two Jack-in-the-Box figures, a Scooby-Do figure, a small plastic football, a Barrel of Monkeys key chain, a clear die with several letter squares in it, a Blush Babies soap and a set of bicycle tire tools. I would have liked to include more bicycle items or baby items to commemorate the arrival of Moun10Bikes new child, but I didn’t have many items that fit either theme.
WARNING: The starting point for this cache was originally posted 1 minute east of the correct location. This has been fixed but the original incorrect location has returned at least once. If your GPS starts you on Maple Valley Hwy try adding 1 minute to the west coordinate.
