Back, due to insaitable geocacher demand...a pleasent walk around historic village collecting clues for final location. the co ords shown are for the start and not the caches NEW improved location
Welcome to Hardingstone, home of the Queen Eleanor Cross, Colin’s pet foods, 2 pubs and one of the smallest Greens in the UK. To find the cache you’ll need to collect a series of clues based on local houses, signs and landmarks. Together they will lead you to the actual cache (which is a medium sized ammo box).
If you want to speed cache, it is possible to drive round the clues…however I wouldn’t recommend it, much better to walk and get the real feel for the village.
Firstly park your car at the Crown Public House at
N 52° 12.812
W 000° 53.107
Now go left along the high street and find Hervey house, once home to the Rev James Hervey, a famed celestial meditant in the 18 Century. It’s located at
N 52° 12.818
W 000° 53.176
What number is Hervey house?
The first number used = A
Remember you’re after one digit here
Now you need to find the Church (go back towards the Crown). Incidentally let me take this opportunity to apologise for the design of the Londis store, but salute Northampton’s planning department for thinking the design was in keeping with the rest of the village.
The church is located at
N 52° 12.783
W 000° 53.035
At the rear of the church you will find a small wooden cross which commemorates Hardingstone’s only murder of recent times, when a mans body was found in a burnt out car near Hervey house The man who was never identified was killed on which day in 1930?
The day = B
Leaving the church turn right and find the old school at
N 52° 12.827
W 000° 52.939
To the right of the school there’s a viewpoint looking over the nene valley, 150 feet below. On a clear day you can see for over 3 miles.
The school was erected by General Bouverie in what year?
The first number used = C
( it’s a single digit you’re after here again )
Now you need to find, the at one time, third pub of the village, which has now been converted to a residential home. To get there carry on east till you come across back lane, walking along back lane, you will find the hermitage at
N 52° 12.866
W 000° 52.834
The house number = D
Carry on along back lane till Ivy house comes into view, at
N 52° 12.891
W 000° 52.633
Now count the number of white posts beside Ivy house
The number = E
Turn right and head to the Green On the far left of the green as you come to it, is a wooden telegraph pole
N 52° 12.809
W 000° 52.702
The pole is embossed with DP_ _
_ _ = F
( use both digits for F )
Now for the maths bit...
To find the cache
N 52° F.A(D+42)
W 000° (D+16).(E-5)(B-1)(c-1)
Happy hunting!
