Geocache Description:

Close to the Viking Way footpath this location was once a busy industrial location in the heart of the Lincolnshire countryside. This cache is close to the now closed Nettleton mine unknown to many and long forgotten by others, if you view the remains use your common sense and do not attempt enter the mine workings.

The description of this cache and its name should be obvious to anyone that knows the words to the song. However the object was not as precious a metal as gold, but iron which was extracted from the ground by tunneling into the hillsides and later by open cast mining. You can see the terraced hillsides if you look carefully even though they have been returned to nature by landscaping long ago. You may also be lucky and find a fossil or two as you walk along, as a young lad I and a pal came here to hunt for them.
