This cache is located along the Erie Canal bike trail in North Utica just past the Harbor Lock. If you park at "Kitty's on the Canal" or at the public parking area, it's a short .75 mi. bike or walk along a paved path.
We're hoping to someday bike across New York State on the Erie Canal bike trails (can't wait until retirement), and it's nice to see the trails are getting better every year. This trail begins at the trailhead at coordinates: N43.06.744, W075.13.060 at the public parking area (or you can park at Kittys on the Canal restaurant if you'd like to end with a snack). The North Utica section of this Erie Canal trail has just recently been paved all the way to the Marcy lock (where you can search for "Daredevils Clan cache"), and is currently under construction to connect to the Oriskany Trail to complete the nearly 20 mile trip to Rome, NY. The cache is a 30 caliber ammmo can, placed nearby the Harbor Lock, just off the path. Harbor Lock leads to Utica Harbor (as expected) and is not a frequently used lock as boats head through here only if they need repairs. but it's a great area for fishermen (at least we always see them there), so the cache is up the trail just a bit further. After you find the cache, continue on biking up to the Marcy Lock and make a round trip of it. It's about 9.25 miles to the lock and back to the parking area at Kittys, where they serve a delicious lunch.
